The Trail
Located on the Lyell Highway between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge, Nelson Falls is a fantastic way to break up the drive while taking in some of Tasmania’s beautiful rainforest surroundings. The 1km return gravel path leading to the Falls is edged by many beautiful rainforest natives including myrtle, leatherwood and sassafras.
The Nelson Falls are impressive in all seasons and a lovely viewing platform is provided at its base. Interpretive signage along the trail also gives an interesting insight into the geological history of the site.
Completed in under 30 minutes this track is a short and rewarding family walk. Two other short walks are also located on the Lyell Highway; Donaghys Lookout and the Franklin River Nature Trail.
